Did it fall apart? Well one did over Hawaii a few years back, but usually it never happens, and they land without the front falling off.
For sure Boeing uses a lot of adhesives in their production of their aircraft, but that failure was due to corrosion/cracking of the cockpit to fuselage seam. It failed and allowed the cabin roof to tear off first class.
The 727 was a very old one too.
So you are saying that this 727 might have had more than 1,000,000 miles on it? They typically fly at around 400 MPH, and that would only take 2,500 hours to get a million miles on it. . .
I think that the average jet will fly more than 2,500 hours per year, and that is much more distance than the average F-150 will ever see in a lifetime! And the Jets will see many more hours of service than a typical F-150 pickup.
Even if driven just 20 MPH for 200,000 miles, that is 10,000 hours on the truck over a 'average' lifetime, while a commercial jet will see 10,000+ hours in less than 3 years.
The fact that only a handful of commercial aluminum jets have a problem with the aluminum skin shows that it is extremely reliable. .. At any given time, there are over 10,000 people airborn in 747's around the world. Now count all the other planes!
