Stupid question regarding metal valve stems and TPMS

So I have a very stupid question regarding metal valve stems and TPMS. I went to Les Schwab and got new tires (bye bye towmax) and metal valve stems. Later I installed the TPMS and I think all of them leaked a little bit.

Upon inspection I noticed that when I tighten the sensor the threaded part of the valve moves, but the bolt part doesn't. When I'm thinking I'm making it tighter I'm actually unscrewing the bolt part.

So what the heck should I do here? Since I didn't install it (no way I could have done it) I don't know how it works.

Why haven't you called Les Schwab to ask them ???
  • Have you tried holding the nut with a wrench while you screw on the TPMS sensor?
  • Make sure that you aren't over tightening the sensors or they will leak.
  • If I hold the nut it seems to get unscrewed as the threaded part moves
  • Your valves were not secured properly. Go back to Les Schawb's in the morning and thy will fix it.

I agree, if you tried holding the nut and it simply turned, they're not installed correctly...Dennis
  • So I went to Les Schwab and this is what's happing: the bolt should be tighten but not too much. The valve works against itself when I have resistance, so I unscrew the bolt and lose the seal.

I was told to keep the bolt tighten (but not too much) and do not move the threaded part. I'll see if I'll be able to do it...
