I like the big blocks. I had a 96 7.4l 4X4 Suburban that I gave to my boy @ 305k miles. He still has it. Current TV is a 2004 8.1l 4X4 Suburban towing a 34' Puma. Recent trip battling Texas headwinds the whole way was 7.1 mpg. The 96 drank a quart of oil every thousand miles like clockwork. The 8.1l oil consumption is 1/3 that of the 96.
The used value of the 2004 is going UP according to Blue Book. I don't think I have ever seen that happen before. 2004 now has 170k miles on it and has been trouble free.
