I just bought my 2003 2500 4x4 8.1L Suburban last fall and have little towing experience with it. It has the 4.10 gears and the short trip we did, I could hardly feel the trailer back there (26', 5600lbs) as far has stability. As for power, it felt pretty good. It would accelerate up to speed pretty easily, better than some unloaded cars I have driven in decades past. I do have a fair number of highway miles. I flew down to Knoxville TN to buy it and drove it back home to MI. I had my speedometer on 75mpg pretty much the entire way home. Got about 12.5-12.9 hand calculated. Slower would be better of course. I don't plan to drive mine daily, it is mostly for just towing or when we really need the extra seating.
