When I had my K2500 Suburban I averaged 6.5mpg towing 7K lbs. The 454 is a great motor for towing. I put ours through it's paces in the NC mountains more than one time.
The towing experience is very different with the 6.0 though. It takes much more to get going but cruises MUCH better. With the 454, just letting your foot off the brake at idle would get things going but not much left for passing at highway speeds.
I never caught myself speeding with the Burb, but I do now !
