Let me add to chorus of 8.1 believers. I love my 2004 8.1 burb with 4.10 gears and 9 seats. But they are hard to find. I booked a one way flight from Chicago to Baltimore to buy mine.
You will never pass a gas station without stopping, but you can't beat it for gasser that tows. In my view I would not even consider a 6.0. There just is no upside to the 6. (save maybe an mpg)
On the flip side, I have never understood those who say they cant feel the tow in a 8.1. I tow 10K lbs., and I can tell you that even with 8.1 displacement, that engine is busting a n@t.
