Very true about the 8.1 being drive-by-wire and that break-in methods make a big difference..
Mine was an absolute gas guzzling oil using pooch before I just hooked it up to that big trailer and was determined to either break it in or kill it in the process. I was not very nice to ol' Max but he never whimpered once. He just kept getting stronger and better.. After the first long trip, he stopped using all the oil and from that point forward, he would only use oil if I pushed him over 65MPH sustained speed with that big trailer hooked up, even then, it was like 1/4 - 1/2 qt per 500 miles.
Max weighed in at about 6600# as I recall. He would not win a drag race, but he could drag anything you hooked him up to. I am convinced that he could drag my V10 SuperDuty around backwards if I had ever hooked the two of them together.
