Yea practicality won this one over.
What impressed me with these Van is that Chrysler has added heavy duty cooling to all of their vans.
There is a Heavy Duty oil cooler, heavy duty transmission cooler, and a heavy duty radiator on every one of these vans.
Useless tow vehicle? More payload than a lot of half tons, more HP than my old 5.4 F150...yup..it's useless. Lol

You can't compare a mini van to a body on frame pickup. It's a nice family hauler - not a vehicle capable towing ANYTHING your family will be comfortable in. Pop ups are what they are....can't compare those to a hard sided trailer either. Obviously - gas millage was a big concern to you-you mentioned it twice in your original post. Again, mpg was more important than pulling a hard sided trailer.
Not for you to say what his family would be or will be comfortable in. JMHO. And mpg is more important to some people. Congrats, Jeremiah!
