Supersprings with Airbags

Can Supersprings be installed if airbags are already installed? For those that have both, how do the Springs work? I am thinking about the 5000 lb Supersprings for my signature truck.
  • I've got the SS and airbags on my truck. I love the SS on there for just carrying the weight of the camper. I really don't use the airbags unless I'm towing now too.

    Dodge 2500 shouldn't have overloads

Yeah, thats the big rub with the 3rd gen Dodge/Ram 2500 2wd trucks that have no upper overload spring pack as my '03.

I had a 2nd gen '01 2500 Dodge with the rear upper overload spring pack I could go with 3500 lbs hitch weight with my 36' GN stock trailer over the rear axle before sagging became a issue.

Same trailer with the current 3rd gen '03 2500 sags after 1500 lbs which is why I use Supersprings. No issues.
  • If I recall awhile back there was discussion from a few Doge/Ram owners who said that SS's caused rubbing or wearing issues with their suspensionsm, possibly the upper over loads. On my Chevy my SS's lay directly over the upper over load springs and I feel thats what gives me all the extra support. Ive never seen any distortion or wear on either component. You might want to give Supersprings a call and ask them about your specific application.
  • Yes you can...at least it worked on my 05. The Supersprings are now doing most of the work and the airbags just for leveling side to side or level at campsite.
  • I added the 5000 lb. Supersprings and it made the shocks work better which I had not anticipated. With better load support their was a reduced range of motion and the shocks range of travel was also reduced.

With my 5,000 lb. set there were two leaves for each side of the truck. I removed the inner leaf initially which is simple to do to see how the 4,000 lb. (total support with the factory leaf packs). Performance was good with the single leaf on each side but was definitely better with both leaf springs (4 in total).
  • I had both. The air bags were useless with the SS's. I just removed the air bags 3 days ago since I never used them. I love my SuperSprings and they always work. Never have to worry about air leaks.
  • We have both on our truck...but it's a Chebby...don't know about the Dodge.
I would say this; we had the airbags for many years with our first (lighter) TC. When we got the new (heavier) TC I added the SS. The bags were just the ticket with the 1st TC, now the bags aren't doing much and the SS are doing the real work.
I am running the bags at 10psi/15 psi just to level things out a bit.

My advice; try the SS and don't bother with bags just yet...
