I don't do a lot of full hook up camping but when I have I never thought about using a surge protector. The subject came up around the campfire this past weekend and out of 8 couples nobody was using one. How about you guys?

We all tend to ignore the danger that is remote. Just like driving with propane on ;)Few years ago in my neighborhood we had high voltage spike (estimated 400V)I had SP on my TV/radio center, but lost couple of power supplies and fuseable link on my digital dishwasher blew, but lot of neighbors lost their big screens and computers. NOW they are buying surge protectors.

Kayteg1, I think OP is talking about a 30 amp line protector that protects the entire TC. In any case, I don't usually use hookups, but I don't carry a full RV line protector.Fyi, there seems to be a sale on for anyone thinking about one. Up until 2007 I never even thought about using one...then we hot the road FTThought it would be a worthwhile 'tool' because we would be going to new/unknown areas and who knows what we might encounter 120V AC power wise.Bought a portable Progressive Industries 50A surge/voltage protectorIT alerted us to couple of reverse polarity issues, lost neutral, lack of grounding and tripped power to rig on numerous low voltage situations.YES....we have one and use itIF you are going to buy one....get one that not only protects from surges but also checks line voltage, checks ground/neutral, mis-wiring at power pedestal etc.Those will cost you more than $100........more like $400

i installed a surge protector in my toy hauler.

I started using a surge protector AFTER lightning hit a tree a few feet from our Southwind. :S
