Your dad (RIP) was hauling commercially. Whole different set of rules. GVWR of truck is 10,001 or combined GVWR of truck and trailer combined is 10,001 and over is considered a commercial vehicle if you are in commerce (making profit from it). At this time the operator has to have a medical card on file.
