I agree with the OP that there many ways to still enjoy traveling but there are a few of things about hoteling it that I don't like about it.
I hate hauling in the luggage every night when we stop and hauling it out in the morning. If you drive anything other than a car like a SUV you had better unload the rig every night. We didn't one night in a blowing snow storm and woke up the next morning when some jerk broke out a side window and stole everything in the back of the SUV. Snow was blowing in the SUV and making a big mess. I tried using plastic to cover the window till we could get the window replaced that day but the tape wouldn't even stick to the metal as it was so cold. My hands were freezing from trying to do this. It is a time neither my wife or I will forget. We were heading out for a month vacation so we were loaded with lots of clothes. We had to replace them before continuing on. Then our home owners insurance went up from it. Another thing is I like to sleep in my own bed knowing what happened in it the night before plus knowing that the sheets and bedding on my bed are clean. I also like being able to get up in the middle of the night and get a drink or a snack of some sort it wanted.
We sometimes travel and hotel it. We will be traveling that way over Thanksgiving and stay in a hotel going and coming to and from our son's place where we are spending turkey day with them. Just the wrong time of year for me to take the RV there.
Shortly after getting back from there we will be loading the MH and hitching the Subaru behind and heading south for a period of time.
