If you drive a short distance and camp for free, RVing is cheaper. If you put down a lot of miles and stay in expensive RV resorts, hoteling becomes the better per day deal.
There are other factors which can drive costs such as special dietary or medical needs or whether pets can come along or have to be boarded while you are away. We haven't even touched on individual tastes and interests - Some people are happy with boxed macaroni and canned beer in the camper while others are looking at the surf and turf menu and wine choices with waiters running around them...
