Swan Song Aftermath

This link was our last TC trip.

Swan Song

Thought some might be interested in what can come next.

We just returned from a 40 day 39 night trip to the East coast and back.
No RV just traveled in a 2008 Chevy Malibu 4 cylinder auto.
This trip covered 9281 miles and the Malibu averaged over 30 mpg. Even gong a legal 80 miles an hour in Wyoming.
Only car problem a burned out headlight.

Proof of our Eastern terminus:
The Roosevelt summer "Cottage" on Campobello Island New Brunswick, Canada.

The trip proved interesting in several ways:

I would not want to do it in high season as we made NO reservations. Yet we always found a room though we were gouged once in Burlington, Vermont.
Most hotels were full, so we paid almost $200 for a $70 room.

Our rooms averaged right around $100 per night for the trip.
Some were very nice.
Wow a hot tub can feel nice on old bones after a long day walking around a museum.

Most rooms had a refrigerator and microwave so many meals were not in restaurants.
In fact most hotels provided breakfast. Some good, some not so good.

When seeing the sights of a town a well placed hotel as home bace proved delightful.

Finding a place to park our car was easier than for our small TC.

No bedbugs anyplace.

So there can be travel fun after the RV. Have fun with yours but when the time comes you can still have great adventures.

Still lurking as a force of habit I suppose.

Was a simple question. There are many alternatives to Truck Campers and what or how folks spend their leisure time. I dont know how questioning posting on a Truck Camper forum on one those alternatives is 'insensitive'. Its not like this is the first occasion the opportunity to expound on the wisdom of his new found alternative to T/C'n is sooo much better. I honestly think its very cool that they enjoy the new direction they have taken.. thats what its all about. Doesnt matter to me what the means is to that end.

Question stands? Though likley now it should have been asked in a PM.
I am fine with the question you posed and didn't think anything negative about it. My response was in the same fashion as your comment, my opinion being expressed. This is why I didn't encapsulate your comments into a quote.

I hope anyone will fill free to express their thoughts, questions and opinions here and not result to PM. So much is lost, as a group, when a discussion is held in PM.

AnEv942 you have nothing to apologise for, or feel bad for.

I had to double check, yup Im in the Truck Camper section of RV forum. I looked and there is not a Motel/Hotel camping forum nor a Bed & Breakfast forum on RV.NET that this might be better placed.

Though I do appreciate your enthusiasm & enjoyment of your decisions I am curious why you feel compelled to related your non TC experiences here and indeed often the merits of them verses using a Truck Camper?

    Agreed.

Sure doesn't get more insensitive than these 2 posts. :R

  • To paraphrase - "I will travel until they wrestle the car/truck/RV keys from my cold dead hands" :-)
  • Love hearing about your trip and the photos. I have often wanted to tour the Presidential homes and museums and have made it to 12 so far. Thanks for sharing.

I'm fine with this posted here as it is a good balance of why TCs are good and sometimes one needs to step away. Also, after the Coffee Pot posting that didn't have any mention of a single word/picture of a Truck Camper for over three pages of comments (plus like this interesting for a Truck Camper person too.)

Glad you had a great trip DG. Sometimes one needs to decide when to step away and that is certainly a thought in the back of my mind too. What is my exit plan. Knowing that there is life after a Truck Camper is a comfort. Please lurk away and visit often. Good meeting you and spending some time talking. What came to mind, with this post, how did you find a Hot Tub to fit into?

    Safe Travels.

  • My wife and I used to travel like that all the time before the truck camper addiction kicked in. We are both spontaneous and enjoy traveling without a schedule. When the camper doesn't work for us anymore, good to know I can still jump in the car and see this beautiful country another way. Great Picture!
  • More pictures from your next trip and we will let you continue to "lurk".
