I removed my 3-way fridge and replaced it with a 12-volt compressor Tundra fridge. I'm glad I did but it took a bit of work. I measured and checked and rechecked dimensions and decided I had to remove the door to get the Tundra fridge in. No big deal, just took time.
The way I see it, I swapped out a poor design for a much more efficient design. I now have a fridge that keeps things cool ALL THE TIME. Frozen stuff stays that way too.
I think it was worth the money and effort.
Trouble is, unless you are happy to run a generator fairly often, any 12V compressor fridge requires a fairly major upgrade of the electrical storage and supply systems and that is expensive and in fact may be even difficult to achieve because of limited roof area for solar panels and/or limited space or load capacity for extra batteries.
I have both systems and neither can be regarded as perfect or better than the other.
