I found that the reason my sway bar makes noise is that the ball and socket joints are loose, and it "hammers" as it turns. I cut some milk jug plastic and used it to shim the socket and it eliminated the groaning. My WD hitch bars don't groan because I keep them greased. I use white lithium aerosol grease, wipe them off and give them a good spray before a trip.
