Sway bars versus RAS versus SS…which one did you choose/why?

Old school, tried/true conventional sway bar (Hellwig/Roadmaster)?

Or new fangled (20 yrs?);RAS
Looks interesting…

2nd question; was it worthwhile and how did it improve your handling?

3rd question; any negative effect on handling/ride?

Edit; adding another option; Super Springs!

To be clear-want to correct for sway/lean/roll/tracking.

Tx, Bill
  • Bill,

I had the "RAS" on my last 3/4 ton Chevy. IMHO, they did very little or nothing for sway.

The BigWig on our current truck is very good at controlling side to side rolling
  • I don't think RAS would clear my airbags or upper overload springs.
  • I've used Hellwig sway bars on three separate trucks and they always work for me. In fact, I just installed the Big Wig on my 2013 Ram. A huge improvement in handling on turns. The only real negative is off-road as it reduces axle articulation.
  • When we where shopping for my dads 06 Dodge 2500 with a TC we briefly looked at the RAS.

We didn't feel the sway effects would be as good as a swaybar, since they work independant of each other; whereas a sway bar works with both sides of the tire.

We installed the hellwig big wig and it works very well.

The do look effective for axle wrap and I looked into them for that on my sig truck, but never got any further.
  • I looked at Roadmaster a few years ago the price was 2 or 3 times more than Helwig
  • X2, looks interesting,I would like to know more too. I have custom exhaust and the RAS would make things a lot easier than sway bar, if they do as said.
