And I towed a 2010 Escape 17B (3100 lbs/ 360 lbs tongue) with a 2016 Tacoma Off Road with no problems, both East & West mountains, etc. You do have to accept the high revving engine - lots of time at 4000RPM in 3rd gear @ 60MPH.
I switched to an Escape 21, (4600 lbs, 500 lbs tongue) and I now have a Ford 150 EcoBoost on order. Pulled the 21 back from the factory with the Tacoma (around 7000 miles, average of 11.5MPG), and even more time in 3rd gear, & the truck was overloaded, hence the change.
