Both are very similar in the towing arena, but the Tahoe is built a lot better for towing IMO. The Q7 is built for performance over toughness.
I'd look at a Toyota Sequoia if I were you. I have the same garage space issue AND wife that wont drive a truck. We love our 2010 Limited. Power is the last thing to worry about with the 5.7L motor and overall reliability is second to none.
