Cracking dash is a common problem on the GM platforms; had it happen on a 2007 Suburban, but not yet on the 2012 Denali. GM has been offering a low-cost replacement (I believe $250) option where they replace the dash. I never heard of it being a safety issue - just an aesthetic one. 6.2 is a great engine; lots of nice torque. But I think the EL Ecoboost has more. I would definitely consider a pre-2014 GM if you found a good one.
