GM interiors do seem to be better, UNLESS you plan on utilizing that 3rd row at all. Anybody older than about 5 would get leg cramps pretty quick, I would think. Though I guess it might make it easier to sleep, when you can rest your chin on your knees. I did a similar analysis myself a year ago, and I bought an Expedition (not an EL, though, since it wouldn't fit in my garage).
The comment about limited payload above is spot on--once you account for your family and gear in the vehicle, you're probably left with only 600-800 lbs for trailer tongue weight. Which, as I'm learning, doesn't leave you with many options for trailers that can accommodate a larger family.
