They will all be just fine towing 5k lbs on occasion if you get it properly equipped; probably just fine even if it is not. You have to check for the towing equipment -- in '14 and older GMs, that means, the K5L package. Not sure what the newest platform offers or exactly what is necessary on the Ford.
Our '10 Suburban has been just about perfect, as was the '05 before it. The back seat in the Suburban is just fine. We just returned from a 1800 mile trip w/ 7 in the Suburban, plus luggage and ski gear. We all fit very comfortably.
I'd love to have an Ecoboost powered Expedition, as I am crazy about the Ecoboost in my F150. But the new ('15) Suburbans are really nice, and the motor received a nice output bump. So it will be my wife's preference when we go to replace our '10 in a year or two. I doubt you could go wrong with either.
