I have discovered that failure to exercise the genny when not run regularly and lack of preventative maintenance can cause problems....ask me how I know.
So what was your problem?
I seldom run the generator as we do a lot of camping in the state parks with electrical hookups and we don't usually stay in one place more than a couple nights. When brand new I could start the genny with two tries at most. I didn't run the unit for several months since the camping we were doing was in parks with electrical. Got home and thought I should start up the genny and it took 6-7 tries before she kicked over. Several later events were similar requiring 6-8 attempts to start before it would run. Then I read that failure to exercise the genny regularly when not in use could result in problems. Fired it up and ran it for about 2 hrs under load and after that it started easily each time. So now I exercise it for an hour if it hasn't been run in awhile and I haven't had any further problems. To some that might sound like minor issue (6-8 tries to start) but I like the peace of mind knowing that when I push the button it will work.
