Just found this while looking for Torklift info. It is a Torklift video about how durable their mounts are. They simulate off-road by using a curb and also driving side to side erratically with the camper in place. Gives the newbie an idea of how truck can handle…
I got Torklift mounts for my Dodge Ram and am waiting for weather to break so I can install.
Going over a curb is NOT simulated off-roading and HJ tiedowns are just as strong using the truck bed as part of the structure. The video in "TC Winching" found here...clicky...shows HJ tiedowns going through WAY MORE strain and stress than a bump stop or wiggling on an flat asphalt parking lot without a hint of failure.....LOL. The HJ haters are hilariousThe HJ haters are hilarious.
Yes, they are. I run HJ's and always have and here is the main reason why (besides the fact that they are just as good as the TL's which are in reality a copy of the HJ's which were around long before TL was in existence....)
I run HJ's simply because when travelling off road, the low mount TL extensions that the turnbuckles attach to are waiting invitations to snag rocks, logs or hook on something on the trails we drive on. Not so with the HJ's. They are up and out of harm's way. I sometimes remove the jack legs entirely. Those too can become expensive hooks (as Mellow Mike found out the hard way)....
When I run off road, I tend to loosen the tiedowns a bit anyway to let the TC move. While that may not work for you, it works for me.
