Hi guys,
We recently sold our 1999 F350 to upgrade to a 2000 Freightliner FL60 for a heavier 5th wheel trailer. And because of the truck change we also reluctantly sold our 2000 Lance TC. I looked at trying to carry the TC on the MDT flatbed but the dimensions just didn't work well w/o serious modifications to either the truck or camper.
So now I am giving some thought to building a TC for the flatbed truck. But before I attempt a project this big I wanted to ask if there is anyone who has done something like this that would be willing to share their experience with me.
Thanks
Ive done something like that,,built a TC for my 8 foot box from plywood,,3/4 inch on the botom, quarter inch sides and top, coated with Cold cure epoxy and marine enamel,,
Got tired of repainting this every few years as no paint last very long,so I glued aluminum sheet on roof and sides..now that I jave it on the ground, and doing some repairs,
I also extended the lower sides about a foot and back two feet making it about 86 inches wide and 10 feet long, plus the 3feet overhang..
Now all I have to do is buy a chassis truck and make a flat bed or remove my truck box and build flat bed on that,,not sure which one Ill choose,,but stil have ton of work to do inside anyway..
Btw the aluminum is 0.020 and 0.025 and the best glue for alum to aluminum is very expensive two part epoxy sold in auto paint stores..
Aluminum to bare wood I used PLpremium construction adhesive and also exterior carpet glue, but all for edges I used the special epoxy which also needs special gun..not cheap but Aluminum should last longer then anything...
