This post is from my experience with two car covers and observations on car covers, boat covers and RV covers. I am sure have had different experiences and different observations. It is not my intent to hurt anyone's feelings.
Why I do not use a TC cover.
1 There is quite a bit of drama putting it on and taking it off, as well as storing it when not in use.
2 The more wind you have, the greater the likelihood it will develop tears in the cover, and damage the TC finish due to rubbing. It is not uncommon for them to leak, trapping water under the cover on the top of the TC.
3 The cover may reduce the amount of dust entering the TC, but will also hold in odors. With high humidity promote mold and dry rot because the TC cannot air out.
The above is the primary reasons I have no interest in a cover (tarp type) over my TC. I live in a country type area on ten heavily treed acres. Year round, I leave the bathroom vent open (MaxxAir Cover) the dinning table window (another type MaxxAir vent) open about 1" to 2". Usually in the summer months I leave the vent in the cabover open about 1" to 2", and leave the door open with screen closed. My TC can breath, and adjust to the climate.
I may wash my TC a few times a year, and wax it once per year. I purchased it in Feb 2004, covered with moss on the top and one side. It is designed to be used in the elements, wind, rail, sun, and a combination of these. When I go camping, I do wipe it down inside. I keep it loaded and ready to camp year round.
As I recall, this photo is one or two years old. No cover of any kind for over 26 years.
