Temperature alarm experience?

We're planning to spend 4 months this summer in the camper with our dog. Since this isn't really vacation there will be times that he will need to be left alone inside for a maximum of 4 hours at a time. Air conditioning would be left running but I'm concerned about what might happen if the air conditioner failed and am looking at various temperature monitors that could signal us wirelessly if the temperature rose. These are vehicles after all and the temp rises quickly when the air is shut off. Anyone have any experience with these? Any other suggestions I haven't thought of? This might be more appropriate to the full timers forum but I wasn't sure.

  • Most of the alarm systems will only work on 120V so if the air goes out then most likely the alarm might also. You will need to look for a 12V system
  • Will you be at a place that has wifi? You could get a wifi thermostat and install it. A lot of them will have an app for your phone where you can monitor the temperature "at home," aka TT.
  • I also have a big dog that is not good in the heat, Bernese. I avoid going to hot locations for vacation. But, I think that Fantastic Fan has a temp setting and will open and turn on if it gets hot inside. If you are only gone 4 hours, the dog has water and can get out of the sun you should be OK. They are on the floor where it is coolest. 110F+ outside will be an issue.
  • I don't know of a system but what you could do is get a wireless camera hooked to the inter web pointed to a temp gauge inside of your trailer.

My solution is simple but there may be other better systems out there.
