Powertrain to match ANY one ton diesel is already in place.
I assume the engineering is more about frame/load carrying along with occupant comfort/convenience.
I for one hope the bed and ride height can be reduced as the trucks today seem to keep getting taller to the point many 5th wheels are nose high and you need to be 6'2"+ to see/reach over the bed rail to grab something.
And I thought you all want it taller. I remember earlier Toyota's factory-lifted Hi-Lux/Tacoma that makes mincemeat of my kidneys and liver everytime it hits a pothole.
Challenge for Tesla as I read is the number of batteries that they can fit into the vehicle.
Their pure electric car was made possible because of their leapfrog in battery technology to carry more juice in smaller lighter batteries.
And a too heavy pick up will definitely sacrifice payload which is the reason why people buy trucks anyways.
I really want a one ton without the big rear fenders. Tuck some super singles under there and rate the payload at 4500+ for my truck option. Just enough bed width for a 5th wheel hitch is fine... I don't care about carrying 4x8 sheets of plywood or drywall. Or I can carry them on edge if desperate.
