Thanks Forum

Last month I purchased a Ram 1500 and planned on towing a 32 foot tt at 6400 dry weight. The payload was only 1436 and there are 4 of us traveling and etc.... many recommended a bigger truck that towing would be a chore on the truck and I would be very near my limit.

Well, just bought a 2014 2500 HD used with 2230 lbs payload and 11k tow capacity. Dealer paid off loan plus added another 1000. Payment went up $40/mo- but the way I looked at it-I was told to upgrade the tires from P to a LT and that would have been a 700-1000 expense right there. Now we have piece of mind.

Looking forward to first trip. Thanks to those who responded weeks ago to my truck, towing and tt situation.
  • Only 2230lbs for payload on a gasser? You must've got the Laramie-Lone Star- Outdoorsman-Big Horn trim. Even the upper trimmed 2500 6.4's have way more than that. Is it a 5.7?
  • Its a 2500 HD Ram-gas. Yea, not even one payment and I was back in trading it in- they gave me money above what I owed and lower the asking price by 2500. Payments only up a few dollars- but piece of mind is worth a lot more.
  • Wow - how long did you own the Dodge before trading it in?? You said you bought it last month, so I assume only a few weeks? They must have been licking their chops to resell you another one!

Is the 2500 HD a Chevy? Different dealer?
  • Gotta be a diesel with only 2230lbs for payload. A gasser would have near 3000lbs.
  • Congrats on the new ride. It is a whole lot more enjoyable towing with a vehicle that's up for the job, compared to one that is working at/near/beyond it's limits.
  • Congratulations on the new truck and you will have such a better setup for towing. And, if you decide to get a different trailer in a few years or so, you will have many more options. Enjoy and safe travels!!
