As a employee, wages were ok, depending on which company one worked for, benefits weren't too bad. But as an consultant and if one can get a full year of work...much better, but then no benefits, pay oneself as little as possible, tax write offs, and good investing for retirement, one can do well. But, one can starve if there's no work! Up here most of the work is down during winter months... ice roads allows you to move rigs and such much easier.... lot of guys will 6-8 months straight and take the summer off. At $900-1500.00/day, Thailand, Philippians or the Caribbean are great places to spend summers... or load up the RV and tour the summer.
