Most people are going to smaller and more fuel efficient SUV's and the trailer manufacturers are producing lighter weight models as a result. Not really the end of the world to have the Suburban 2500 go out of production. There is always the Ford Expedition if you want a huge SUV.
Sadly, the Ford Expedition and the 2500 Suburban are two completely different sets of vehicles. The 2500 Suburban was the only 4x4 vehicle in production that had the seating, power and payload to handle a large family (5+) and a large trailer (7k+). Vans don't offer 4x4 (without a significant aftermarket conversion), pick-ups don't have the space for 5 passengers plus a dog, and the full-size SUV's now in production don't have the payload to manage a 1k tongue weight in addition to a full load of passengers.
I don't fault Chevy for making the decision - if the market isn't big enough to sustain the production, then I understand their decision. For the small group of us who fell into this niche, however, it is a big loss.
