My problem with the whole discussion is that anyone that says anything you don't want to hear is automatically a "weight police" whether their case has merit or not.
When did a 6000lb pickup truck become a "light vehicle?" Especially pulling a trailer that barely outweighs it. The tow vehicle does not need to be heavier than the trailer pulling it; every tractor-trailer on the highway is proof of that.
If the new trailer is comparable in frontal area to the old trailer, you will not notice an extra 500lbs.
As long as you are driving a reasonably late-model, well-maintained truck with good tires and brakes, and the trailer is also in equally well-maintained condition, the potential weights we are talking about here will not put you in any danger.
At worst, you will be UNCOMFORTABLE. It'll start out fine because the excitement of the new trailer and your first trip will mask any annoyances, but as you take more trips it will go from, "This is great!" to, "This is okay." If it stops there you're golden but it may continue on to, "This SUCKS!" at which point you'll start looking for a new truck.
If you were asking about an 8-9,000lb trailer, it would be a different story, but here and now, that's it. No drama. No killing busloads of nuns and orphans. Worst case is you won't like it after a while.
