2002 duramax towing a 21T Komfort I have no problem getting 12 mpg while towing .
My duramax only has 520 # of torque which is better than the 7400 vortec it replaced with 410 # of torque .
the 1997 vortec was identical body style purchased new also and I often got 9 while towing . It would never do 13 not towing .
I never get 20 mpg not towing with the duramax . More like 18.5 to 19.5 on the highway and 14.6 around town .
But I don't go slow either .
I use a cardlock gas system so I see my usage and mpg every month on the statement .
I am of the belief that the Cummins boys do better than I and that the newer 765 # torque boys do worse .
I have never been a gas mileage boaster .
I have only owned the biggest engine pickup available since my first new car , a 1972 chevy with the big block 402 .
I had an aftermarket 50 gallon tank installed during the 1973 gas crisis .
The duramax goes as far with only a 26 gallon tank .
