There are a ton of variables that have a noticeable effect on fuel mileage. Weight towing, headwinds, fuel type and octane, speed, wheel/tire size, driver habits, etc.
Using the truck and trailer in the sig below, over 13K pounds total weight, we did a 4500+ mile round trip to the Grand Canyon last September. Had horrible crosswinds in Kansas on the way out and New Mexico, Texas, and half of Oklahoma on the way back. We averaged 11.1 MPG for the entire trip. Stayed at a steady 63-64 mph for most of the trip while on the interstates. One thing I found out, was that it got better fuel mileage in 5th gear while towing. 6th gear while towing will bog the engine enough to lose about a full mile per gallon. It will pull fine in 6th, plenty of power, but fuel mileage suffers. We used 87 octane gas, except for while in the Rockies, where 85 was available and used.
If you use the winter fuel of the type that is sold around here from November to April, your mileage will be reduced a good 10-15%.
