I certainly understand the dilemma! I full timed in a 36' fiver w/LR slide for 9 years, though I still had my stick house. I'd take it on the longer (1-3week) trips where I'd park and stay once I got there and have the truck to "sight see" But for the shorter trips I also had a TC and as time progressed I'd use it more and more over the fiver for many of the reasons mentioned here. It is sort of like my "personal time capsule." It has everything I need to live and travel and very little of the unnecessary fluff the fiver had (washer and dryer, etc.) Then, when I went back into a stick house the first thing I did was sell the fiver and go back to campers. A few years ago some of you may remember I had to leave the TC world and purchase a travel trailer (22') for a potential place for my mom to live at my home. I'm in the mountains and my house is 2 flights of stairs to the front door. She was not able to climb them anymore, but I could put a ramp up to the trailer door if necessary. She didn't live long enough though and I never pulled the trailer out of my driveway in 2 years until I did to sell it and go back to a TC (I did have a couple driveway camping trips and dinner parties in it though :) ) It was a very emotional time not only because of my mom, but also because I felt for a time that I was sort of trapped without a "quick getaway" home on wheels. I too put a lot of work and time into my TCs and when I sold the one before the trailer I DID cry.. One has to set their priorities when making these decisions. Always lots to think about. Sometimes I just sit in the TC with a martini and dream about the next adventure and what I'll see out the very same dinette window! It all CAN be emotional!
In any event, Go Camping!! :)
