Sounds like you were on the Ranger, thank you for your service on this Veterans day!
I'm looking at nearly the same rig you are (NL 10-2 wet bath, 1 ton gasser). Want reliability (slides, would be nice to have recliner but some slides have problems ..) I haven't found anything that fits your criteria of not attracting too much attention ...
I'd go with: portable generator (can always add Onan later if needed), try for another solar panel on top, 1-2 Renogy portable panels, and can go Li-Ion battery if more juice is needed. Small inverter.
If you go up into the mountains on rocky forest service roads, does a dually still work good there when one is driving all over the road to avoid holes? I wish I knew answer to that.
I saw nice Roadtrek CS Adventurous just this week, MB 4WD sprinter van. Has increased clearance, looks great. Positive is no tie downs that would be getting torqued ... negatives are smaller tanks and single pane windows ...
Northstar is still in running, but wood veneer cabinets vs. vinyl overlay is making me think NL for durability, plus no rot (?) in NL.
Let us know how things go, since right now my choice is almost same as yours, but maybe SRW at 4500-4600 lbs payload. Can always go with 19.5" wheels ...
