I have the same 2017 Nirthern Lite as you are looking at on order for delivery next spring. Initially, I had also planned to get the Onan generator, but after talking to some others and reading some of the pros and cons people offered here, I decided against it. I already have a Honda eu2000i generator, and may get a second one, which seems like the better solution.
I hope you don't learn of another camper that is better than the Northern Lite, since, that would sure put a damper on my enthusiasm for getting it!
Oh, I already have my truck - a 2011 F350 dually. Mine is a 6.4L diesel, but I think you are right on about getting the gasser.
