Sounds like you were on the Ranger, thank you for your service on this Veterans day!
I'm looking at nearly the same rig you are (NL 10-2 wet bath, 1 ton gasser). Want reliability (slides, would be nice to have recliner but some slides have problems ..) I haven't found anything that fits your criteria of not attracting too much attention ...
I'd go with: portable generator (can always add Onan later if needed), try for another solar panel on top, 1-2 Renogy portable panels, and can go Li-Ion battery if more juice is needed. Small inverter.
If you go up into the mountains on rocky forest service roads, does a dually still work good there when one is driving all over the road to avoid holes? I wish I knew answer to that.
I saw nice Roadtrek CS Adventurous just this week, MB 4WD sprinter van. Has increased clearance, looks great. Positive is no tie downs that would be getting torqued ... negatives are smaller tanks and single pane windows ...
Northstar is still in running, but wood veneer cabinets vs. vinyl overlay is making me think NL for durability, plus no rot (?) in NL.
Let us know how things go, since right now my choice is almost same as yours, but maybe SRW at 4500-4600 lbs payload. Can always go with 19.5" wheels ...
Thanks! Sure was. Flight Deck Aviation Ordnanceman (G3) - many, many years ago. Back then - I thought being around giant bombs was ever so cool - that and living on the high seas walking about on the roof of the most lethal weapons ever devised by man. Definitely sticks with you for life. Keep using the name. Even had a Ranger bass boat because it was "my Ranger". Makes me chuckle. We went through a typhoon once and the waves got high enough to go over the bow. That was neat. A much smaller plane guard frigate got behind us as somewhat of a shield. Was standing on the fantail watching it appear and then disappear as a wave would pass our aft and then completely submerge the frigate for several seconds. Glad I wasn't on that boat! Oh the vomit! HA!
Don't know about maneuvering with the DRWs and pot holes on FS roads - whether better or worse. Depending on the size of the hole - might be able to go right over it rather than around given the extra width with two tires hitting it. Have always had a SRW mid size pickup. Only going dually because others have said they're far better for heavier TCs stability wise. That and having a blowout on the highway going 65 with 4300lbs in the rear and over my head is something I've never experienced (and never wish to). Seems a dually would handle that better. Keeping my fingers crossed that I never find out.
Haven't looked at Northstars. Will have to check them out. Thanks for the gen and solar tips!
