You only buy propane every year or two? I must have this whole propane issue wrong. Was thinking I'd go through two 20LB tanks easily within a week or two. Three showers per week, fridge running constantly, with furnace running during weather in the 40s in winter would go through two tanks a week easily, right? In summer time the same, but instead of furnace, the AC once or twice a week for a few hours a day on hot days. That's got to suck a ton of propane.
The propane: Oh, yeah, forgot to mention that I almost never use the water heater. I heat just the right amount of water on the stove for whatever. Bathing: wet wipes or sponge bath or a pourover from bottles of warm water. Sounds awful for sure, but it gets you clean and uses way less water than a "real" shower.
I don't have AC. Fantastic Fan. That said, last summer in AZ I sure was regretting that decision. Thought I would melt. Options: get AC on the TC, then go to a place with hookups if you want to use the AC. Or get AC and a generator and deal with the fueling issues.
Furnace: I use it in the morning. Sleep under piles of blankets if necessary; can add longjohns and a wool hat. It does get cold in SoCal and in the desert.
Food for thought: An RV off the grid is basically a closed system. You've got the resources you brought with you: propane, batteries and/or generator, water, waste tanks, etc. Use water, fill waste tanks. Use electricity, need to make/get more. Run water heater and furnace, empty propane tank. You need to conserve or you will have to go to town to fill or dump more often than once a week.
Will have to look into better ways to conserve. Don't really want to have to drive back and forth more than once a week. Thanks!
