I think you're totally on the right track. Worry free on the gasser truck.
Dually is a big plus for stability and I wouldn't worry about the width on trails as the camper is as wide or wider anyway.
Fiberglas clam shell is the best for durability for sure.
The convienence of an on board generator is nice but I prefer the simplicity and quiet of separate 2kw genset.
Sounds like fun!
Gotcha. Everyone thinks the the Honda or similar 2KW is better than the Onan, so I'll likely go that route as well. Thanks!
I'll qualify that as better way to go from a flexibility standpoint.
I've only been around my 2 truck campers which I've had a Honda and 1 class c some friends rented with the built in.
Built in was super convienent, no security issues w the generator and walk over to a button on the wall and you have instant electricity.
Can't comment on how much propane it used but we only remote camp and the Onan was loud inside and out. Especially sitting in the camper.
To be fair they both have their advantages, but if you're able to lug around the Honda and figure out convienent storage/security for it and are back in the woods like you're planning, I'd go Honda or Yammy.
