I blame jet airplanes for reversing the cost of gas/diesel.  50 years ago with most planes burning gas there was a surplus of diesel EXCEPT in the winter. I always buy my off road diesel in the summer where it used to always be cheaper than gas BUT in the last 15 years it rarely is cheaper anymore. I do not mind paying 14% more for diesel as it has that much more BTUs than gas.
In my 3.45/2.99 example and using the difference of 46 and using the mid price of 3.22 as the divider 46/322= 14%... right where it should be BTU wise.
