Well for diesel, It is taxed at $0.06 cents more per gallon at the federal level, but most states pack on the same amount of taxes for gasoline and diesel. Diesel has gotten a bit more expensive to process/make because of the ULSD requirement that's out there now (15ppm). However, I'm wondering if the same will happen to gas, as it's going from 30ppm down to 10ppm of sulfur. Of course, the EPA is estimating a penny per gallon price increase, but knowing big oil they would want to recover their capital expense within 5 years. So we'll see from that front. Personally, I hope more of the line-haul trucks move to CNG or LNG so that more diesel will be available for the regular guys (downward pressure on fuel price). It looks like the europeans (including FCA) and even GM are betting big on Diesel. I'm also figuring that diesel supplies may be a little tighter on the east coast as you have to build your refineries to produce the right quantities of each fuel. who knows (other than big oil).
