Good job with dealing with 'mechanical' failure.
Stuff happens...it's the way you deal with them that matters.
It's a little bit of gut feel, bunch of past experience and in today's world, the Internet.
Dedicated truck forums, with some reading, you can get a feel for "problem" areas with particular models and it's always easy to ask the question "Got xxx miles on xxx trucks, what has gone wrong?"
By polling the crowd, you can get a feel for things that may break before they do.
Not an exact science by any means but if I can reduce the chance of a roadside repair or a tow, I'm all over it.
