Even when made in small numbers, I could use Rolex watches as another example. I've yet to hear of someone buying a Rolex and having to take it back to fix escapement gears. Quality is independent of number of products made.
I just wonder if it is just cost that is so critical to selling RVs? I'd pay 20% more for a rig if I knew it was built right the first time, and I was sure I didn't have to deal with marginal electrical wiring, plumbing, potentially leaky roofs, lousy keys and locks, etc. In general, one pays a lot more for a rig than a car... shouldn't RV door handles be at least up to car door spec and keys be "laser cut" keys, and not just the FIC or CH751 cheapies? For the price one pays, a RV door should have the ability to be locked/unlocked with a remote.
Our new trailer is a fiver. It cost almost three times what the Kodiak cost us. It has real cabinets, digital lock on the door, Dexter axles with shocks, hydro slides and auto leveling, etc. It's by Heartland. While they do get some fit and finish issues, they restrict their production at the plant that makes our fiver to 10 units a day. They also test and inspect stuff not once, but twice. Once burned, twice shy.
