I was fortunate with mine, all 4 legs dropped into place and even locked down with enough grip to where I didn't need to do any adjusting...I like the idea of the padlocks..I'm going to look into that....I too positioned mine 2" in front of rear axle and again, my height is 18"...19" was too high and, though I've only hooked to my 5er to see how it looked, believe the 17" height wouldn't give me much distance between the 5er and the bed rails... Will know better when I tow and go over some of the hilly places I go to get my 5er where we camp...
One thing about it, it is much easier to adjust location of head unit where you want it and very easy to adjust height....the Reese 20K signature hitch was not an easy task to adjust height.
