My Ram tailgate locks when you lock the doors. Be hard to steal if you can't open.
Tailgate thefts were even a problem back when I bought my 2005 Ford. The fleet sales guy stressed to lock the tailgate when ever possible. I removed mine since I had a full door canopy and then went to a truck camper, so it was never installed until I sold the truck.
