My 5500 is easily over 1000 lbs heavier than your 3500. 5320 lbs up front and 4900 lbs in the rear without driver or passengers. The 50+ gallons of fuel, 9' steel deck, gooseneck and SuperHitch account for much of that extra weight in the rear. Your front end is lighter even with all those gadgets at your trim level verses my Tradesman - Could it be the difference in the 5-link verses 3-link fronts? I know my wheels and axles are heavier.
