Our truck bed is ridiculously high, and the camper is on a 4" platform above THAT to clear marker lights on the cab. The camper has no steps or bumper.
We have been using a hitch-mounted cargo tray as a step to get into the camper. It's a MAJOR case of "watch that first step - it's a Duesey!" To get in and out requires a bit of acrobatics - there's a point during the maneuver where you have to commit - transitioning your weight - and "GO!"... kind of like stepping from the dock onto a boat.
At 6'4", the doorway doesn't afford me any margin for error, and the maneuver means I've got a lot of momentum when my head whacks the top of the door opening. %$##&*!!
Also, both of our old dogs need to be lifted in and lifted out. Dog 1 is 100lb and gets lifted out first. Dog 2 usually makes a leap of faith just as dog 1's feet are touching down, which means I have to spin and catch her in mid the air so she doesn't break her neck from a 4' nosedive.
I know some sort of steps/ ladder will be in my future, but this is what I hate about our TC in the meantime. I know it's a low-end unit, but some means in and out ought to be part of the camper.
