Well, how much money does an upgrade from 2wd to 4wd return? How much does going from a Tradesman to a Laramie return? How much does going from a 6.2L to a 7.3L return? Sure, you will get the 70-80% of what you paid upfront on these options on resale/trade in, but they will never have any kind of savings return while you own them. In many cases like the 4wd and higher powered engine option, it cost you more in fuel and/or maintenance. Not only is there a return with diesel, but you get a lot more pulling power too.
