Bottom line... goducks10 got tired of cleaning his EGR on his cummins and he complained about a lack of heat produced in the cab so he sold his low mileage truck for a new truck and paid more for the optional 6.4 gas engine that requires a special oil to prevent the cam from going flat to get as much performance as possible.
I truly hope his new truck lasts a lot longer so we don't have to hear about these type of stories!
Keep that oil changed on time their buddy! :B
1. It's there, not their. :B
2. I'm 100% seriously wanting to know about these cam issues. I no longer own my 6.4L and haven't been actively "following" the engine on forums etc. but I'm not aware of any issues with the engine. Do you have any links? Are they giving trouble? I only owned mine to about 35,000 miles if memory serves....
What I've noticed on a different forum, are the 6.4 owners complaining about the cylinder deactivation system, maybe a cause of vibration. Also mentioned some didn't like the sound they claimed to hear when cylinders were switching. A few mentioned getting a tune to disable the CDS. I think the new transmission will make the 6.4 a standout, but would prefer a more simple engine design, for HD truck use. I will say I've no experience with the 6.4, not even a test drive.
I've nothing against Ram, but if I bought one, it would be because I needed the Cummins diesel.

Mine vibrates a little when the MDS is activated. But it hardly ever activates. If it bothers someone they can simply toggle down a gear. Once the toggle shift is engaged it disables the MDS. Same as TH. Most of the vibration is in the lower speeds for me. 30-45 stuff.
